Bio-Pruf Information sheet

All references are standard and manufactured with Bio-Pruf specifications. These anti-bacterial wallcoverings have been treated with a chemical biocide, Bio-Pruf® that inhibits the growth of micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungi. In environments such as hospitals and health centres, sterile and hygiene conditions are of upmost importance.

When surfaces need to be as clean as possible, the walls, as an important part of any building, need to be equally germ free. Therefore, anti-bacterial wallcoverings are gaining importance as architects are requesting more often for the Bio-Pruf® specifications.

How does Bio-Pruf® work?

The majority of the wall contaminations are caused by:
• Bacteria - organisms which can cause wound or respiratory infections;
• Fungi - organisms which can cause mould;
• Actynomycetes - organisms which cause the pink staining mould.

Some anti-bacterial agents work by attacking the micro-organisms, which can split to form hybrid micro-organisms. These new micro-organisms can be responsible for secondary cross infections in hospitals. Bio-Pruf® however, works in a completely dlifferent way;

• Due to it’s chemical characteristics, Bio-Pruf starves the micro-organisms of their source so that they reduce in concentration and eventually die;
• It is effective across the whole spectrum of fungi and bacterium including actynomycetes;
• Since Bio-Pruf is added during the production of the vinyl wallcovering it is therefore active throughout the entire lifespan of the wallcovering. Bio-Pruf is effective against a broad range of micro-organisms. Here are a few examples:
• Staphylococcus aureaus
• Klebsiella pneumoniae
• Mucor racemosus
• Streptoverticillium reticulum
